Behind the Scenes Tour
You and up to five guests can enjoy a private behind-the-scenes tour of one or all of the facilities that house animals at the Akron Zoo. This guided tour will take you and your guests on a wild journey and offer a peek at where our wild animal keepers perform their daily duties of cleaning, preparing diets to feed, and care for the animals. Penguin Point, Meso-America, and Madagascar in Legends of the Wild, and Cat and Bear Building in Tiger Valley are the facilities available to tour. Come prepared to ask the keepers and your tour guide questions during this amazing journey. You can tour all six facilities for a gift of $500 or choose three facilities for $350 or one facility for $200. Keeper For A Day
Follow an Akron Zoo Keeper during their daily routine. Watch and learn all the aspects of being a wild animal keeper. You can help make diets for the animals, clean their exhibits or just follow the keeper and ask questions you’ve always wondered about. This is a once in a lifetime journey you’ll remember forever! Ages 14 and older. Half Day $250 Full Day $350. Call the Development Department at 330-375-2550, ext. 7220 to schedule this unique experience.
Zoo Veterinarian For A Day
You can watch one of the zoo’s veterinarians give some of the animals their check-ups right in the same room. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the medical care that the animals receive. Ages 14 and older. Half Day is $500. Call the Development Department at 330-375-2550, ext. 7220 to schedule this unique experience.
Trainer For A Day
Join the Education Staff as they work side-by-side with the animals. Learn the ABCs of animal training and put these skills to use as you help train various animal behaviors. Your adventure includes animal meet-n-greets, a private behind-the-scenes tour and the opportunity to appear in "It's a Wild World" animal show. Gem Mining
Surely you have visited the Frontier Town Store and House. But have you gone gem mining yet? Visit the gift cart to purchase a bag of gem mix for only $6.99. You can become a real pioneer and test your skills right there at the gem mine's flume. You can sift through the gem mix to uncover beautiful garnets, amethist, emeralds, quartz, agates, tiger eye, turquoise, sharks teeth, arrow heads and much more! You'll also want to check out the stone chart that identifies all your treasures, and we'll even give you an ID chart to take home. Each bag is different so stop by often and collect them all!
