RED PANDA

(Ailurus Fulgens)
Location: China
Habitat: Forested Mountain Ranges

Red Pandas are known by different names. The Chinese call them WAH. They also are known as fire fox. Red pandas inhabit forested mountain regions in China where temperatures get extremely cold. Although red pandas spend much of their time in trees, they will venture to the ground in search of food. Red pandas feed mainly on bamboo, fruits and acorns. However, they also have been known to eat small rodents, young birds and insects. Female red pandas nest in tree hollows where they raise between one and three cubs. At birth, cubs are covered by thick, wooly gray fur. The cubs leave the care of their mother when they are fully-grown at 1 year old.
