Then you should be an Akron Zoo Edzoocator!
The Akron Zoo's Edzoocators contribute a great deal to the zoo. Currently the zoo has more than 90 Edzoocators. We hope that this number will grow, as the zoo grows, in the next few years.
Edzoocators can participate in the following areas:
- Special Events
- Education
- Newsletters/office
- New volunteer training/mentoring
- Special Committees
- Fundraising
- Horticulture
- Social/hospitality
Additional training is required to work with education animals:
- Animal Presentations
- Animal Displays
- Animal Enrichment
Edzoocators are required to contribute 50 hours of service to the zoo every year. Meetings for the EdZoocators are held the first Tuesday of every month in the evening. At these meetings, volunteers discuss upcoming projects and events, sign up for programs and displays, and learn about the new and exciting happenings at the zoo.
You will be contacted to participate in a 30-minute phone interview. If you are accepted into the program, you will be required to participate in training classes, usually held on Saturdays.
The Akron Zoo offers two training sessions each year. Prospective volunteers must participate in training sessions to be eligible for the Akron Zoo's EdZoocator program.
